Feb 26, 2010 She's some van!

March 5 - Ottawa - Cafe Dekcuf with Glenn Nuotio
March 6 - Toronto - The Savannah Room part of CMW
March 8 - Guelph - Jimmy Jazz with Arrows
March 11 - Ottawa (again!) Irene's Pub with Sarah Hallman
March 12 - Montreal - L'esco Bar

Well, it's officially official. We now have a van once more. We're back in action. Back on the road. Back at it. Back to the old grind. It's like we've discovered viagra and we're doin it again. Doin it in front of you guys. Ha!

Meet the 1994 Chevy Astro Gladiator that stole our hearts:

She's 10 feet tall and 20 feet wide and can swallow volkswagons in a single bite. She's got the cushiest seats and the best smell in the world. She's a V6 so one day we might have a trailer. She's a beaut.
Did you ever see that old SNL skit with Chevy Chase I think where they talk about the boat that they're on as "She's some ship" and "She's some nice day for a voyage." and then when they talk about their kids and wives they say, "Oh, its doing pretty well in school" and "Ya, it got it's hair cut". I always thought that was funny.

So, the Gladiator's maiden voyage is March 3. For the above-mentioned shows.

The record is going well. Still working on new songs even. We'll be playing lots of new songs on our travels. Lots and lots of new songs. Do you guys still want to hear the old ones? We still like playing them as long as you still want to hear them.

Hope to see you out.

Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone who came out to our Dec 29th show in Fredericton and our NYE show home in Halifax. It's fun to play brand-new songs for brand-new outfits. You all look terrific.

Excited this year for the ECMA's. We were lucky enough to get a nod for Alternative Album of the Year. We'll be showcasing a couple of times. We'll be sure to give a schedule as soon as it comes out.

Aside from that, we're getting back to recording very soon. Have something to share very soon. New photos soon with Halifax's Julé Malet-Veale. She does great work with Tanya Davis, and we're going to get in on that thunder.

Kris just got a lap steel guitar. That's pretty exciting.

Last night I dreamed I was a millionaire and opened a restaurant for everyone to eat at for free. It made sense in the dream.

Thank you again. For last year. If we didn't say it enough. Thank you for coming out to the shows. Thank you for supporting our hiadus' when we played with other bands. Thank you for encouraging and inspiring.

Here's some stuff we're listening to a lot of in the winter days

Nov 20, 2009

What a great weekend we had in St. John's with our best pals, Hey Rosetta!. We are so lucky that we can have such awesome friends and leave that city with our hurting heads so full of good times. Thanks to the crowd at the Majestic for letting us loose in their theatre and thanks to Sandy at CB's for letting us play until 3:30 and then close the place down. Fuck.
It's freezing back in Halifax. It's time to lock ourselves away and begin a new chapter on record. We begin next week for a few days. Then a few days off, then a few days back in. We're doing it like that again it seems. Continuing the great canadain studio tour.

Oh, I should mention that we lost a dear comerade on the way back from Pop Montreal back in October. Our band wagon. The maroon bus. It now rests in La Pocatiere, Quebec with a blown head gaskette. What a great machine! Never left us stranded once; well, except on the way back from Pop Montreal. We really lucked out and it was a lot of laughs as we loaded all of our gear into the van we picked up for $200 at Garage Lorenzo and continued on, no more than one hour and a half after the fatal van moment.

Here's a pic of her in her resting place:

Hello friends home and abroad,

Thank you all for coming out and dressing up at the Marquee last Saturday. What a magical night when you look up and see people in disguise rocking out. It was a special evening indeed.  We love you.

These last few weeks have been truly inspiring. DWTB loves sweater weather. We love scarves and wind and Saturday night storms. We love preproduction for our new record. We locked ourselves in Dave's house for a the business part of the week and came up with and recorded some new ideas. I don't think we could be more excited. We're just waiting for Kris to get off the road w/ Jenn Grant and then we're in the studio to begin. We're meeting him in St. John's for a couple of rock shows and helpings of soul food first.
